Final Project

Now you are on your own, to design and carry out a research project that will culminate in a Completion Report similar to the ones you have written during the year.  You may research any area of interest to you, but your study must include each of the following elements:

·    Your research question must be one which a reasonable person might be interested in answering.

·    Data can be analyzed using a function or system of functions you have studied (e.g. linear, quadratic, etc.).

·    Some use of technology must be employed – such as using the CBL, software such as Minitab or Excel, internet research, etc.

·    You may gather your own data or you may use raw data that you find from an outside source, such as a reference book or a website.  However, you must analyze the data by yourself.  Under no circumstances may you offer an analysis that was done by somebody else.

·    You must be able to document all sources of data.  If you are going to conduct your own research, be sure to clear your process with your teacher before proceeding.

Prior to beginning your project, you must have your topic approved by your teacher, who will ask you how you plan to meet the above requirements.  Be prepared with answers!

This is a major project.  Your teacher will tell you how much the project will factor into your grade, and also whether this project is an individual project or one that you may conduct with one or more other students.  Work carefully, and plan well so that you will be able to complete your work on time.  When your teacher tells you the following due dates, write them below so that you don’t miss an important deadline.
