Hook Moon Night

The darkness of the night made it hard for me to see more than a foot in front of me. With my arms outstretched, I timidly continued through the woods. I felt like Old Man Jennings who had lost his sight in the war. In sharp contrast to my eyes failing me, my ears had become awake. I could hear sound all around me. Sticks crumpled under me feet. Wind whistled through the giant pines. I tried not to be scared, but it was no use. Then I heard a sound that froze me in my tracks. .................
