Officers for 2007-2008
President
Mafalda Nula is a native of Argentina. She
holds a Master of Arts degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Rhode
Island. She teaches at St. George's
School in Newport, Rhode Island. This is the second year of her term as
president

Treasurer
Dr. King Odell has been a master teacher of Spanish,
French and Italian at Moses Brown School for more than 50 years. Dr. Odell earned
an A.B. from Suffolk University an A.M. from Brown University and a Ph.D. from
the University of Missouri, In addition he holds Diplomas from University of
Aix-en-Provence, the University of Valencia, University of Perugia, and the
University of Grenoble. His Publications include "Animal Imagery in the Works
of Jean Giono" "Amici o nemici" and several monographs in the Romance Languages
Memberships: AATSP, AATF, AATI, AATR, RIFLA. Dr. Odell was awarded RIFLA's teacher
of the Year in 2000. In June of 2005, Dr. Odell, known to many as Doc,
retired from 52 years of
teaching and serving the Moses Brown community. He continues to serve as
the school´s archivist.

Past- President

Miriam Gorriaran is a native of Cuba and has resided in Rhode Island since 1963. She has traveled extensively in Europe and through many parts of Latin America. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island where she minored in French and also earned a Master's Degree in Comparative Literature. She has been a lecturer for The University of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales University, and Bryant College. Miriam was named the Rhode Island Foreign Language Teacher of the Year in 2003. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Foreign Language Association (RIFLA). She currently is an adjunct Spanish Instructor for both Providence College and Bryant University.
Public Relations
Dr. Linda Crawford is a full time
Associate Professor at Salve Regina
University in Newport, Rhode Island. She has a BA from Western
Michigan University, an MA from University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a D.Phil.
from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Crawford will be
coordinating Essay Competition.
Secretary
Holly Kindl has a B.A. from the University
of Colorado. Holly is the Technology Coordinator for the Rhode
Island Chapter of Fulbright Alumni Community. She went to Peru in 2001 on a
Fulbright exchange. Holly
is currently working on her Master's Degree in the Teaching of Foreign Languages
through the University of Southern Mississippi's Madrid, Spain Campus.
She teaches Latin dancing at Lincoln and as a volunteer in the larger
community. She is the yearbook
advisor and middle school tennis coach.
Holly has taught at Lincoln for 10 years and before that she taught ESL
in rural Costa Rica through World Teach, a non-profit, pilot program sponsored
by Harvard University. Currently she is the head
of the Modern Language Department at Lincoln
School in Providence, Rhode Island. She is the board's secretary.
Elizabeth A. Morais is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese at the Community College of Rhode Island, Lincoln Campus, where she has been teaching for 16 years. She holds a BA and MA in Spanish from the University of Rhode Island. In addition, she has completed 30+ post-graduate credits in Comparative Literature from University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and UMASS Dartmouth. She has completed numerous study abroad programs in Spain, Mexico, Portugal and the Azores. Her professional associations include Phi Sigma Iota, Sigma Delta Pi, RIFLA (board member, office holder for several years) and RIAATSP (currently serves as Corresponding Secretary). She graduated with highest honors from CCRI's Bilingual Judicial Interpreter Certificate Program and has passed the written portion of the National Association of Judicial Interpreters (NAJIT). She is currently involved with CCRI's newly instituted Medical Interpreter Certificate Program as Language Coach. She volunteers in the neighborhood elementary school to teach an 6-week after school Spanish program for grades K-2 in the spring semester. She will also help coordinate the National Portuguese Exam for our chapter.
Mary Ashby has a BA in Spanish as well as a MA in Teaching ESL from West Chester University. Mary taught ESL in Buenos Aires for 5 years. She teaches Spanish at St Michaels Country Day School in Newport, Rhode Island. Mary is currently an adjunct at Salve University as well.
